Travel to Qatar for R&R
Well, my traveling partner and I made it to Qatar alive. More than 24 hours after our plane left our base in Iraq, but nevertheless, we are in Qatar. We flew a C130 out of Iraq and a C-17 out of Ali Al Salem, Kuwait. The C-17 was much more comfortable, I can assure you.
It’s the first day, so haven’t been off the compound yet - still trying to get our bearings. I’ll tell you the internet in the Gym is blazing fast, while the one in the USO building is painfully slow. It was pretty nice to eat a real, grilled to order steak dinner for lunch today and I am looking forward to drinking my three authorized beers tonight out by the pool. Going on the inland sea trip tomorrow. That’s supposed to be a crazy SUV drive across the sand dunes and then a picnic near the beach. I hope to get on the cultural tour (local Qatar shopping and dining) and the deep-sea fishing trips later this week.
One thing I learned today - never be late for anything, because they will close the doors and leave you behind. Saw that today at the sign-ups for tours.
