Stuck in Iraq
Last night, I tried to get on a C-130 to go home on leave. It was a last minute deal. I originally was supposed to go on leave in a day or two, but an opportunity came up to hop a plane last night. Unfortunately, the Air Force decided to completely bypass my base here in Iraq. So, about 30 of us were left stranded and told to come back the next day. Damn!
So, here I sit waiting for the next flight out tonight. Hope this one works out, I’m really tired of Iraq. In the past, I had thought about getting out of the Army and coming back here as a security contractor - making huge amounts of money (for me) - but right now, all I want to do is go home. I miss my wife and little 3-year-old boy very much. I’ve missed out on him growing up and I don’t know that I would want to come over here again for a year or two - the money notwithstanding. My wife has had a hard go of it while I’ve been gone, and it probably hasn’t been fair to her.
Plus, I’m tired of drinking near-beer and eating the same crap in the chow hall. I yearn for some good, authentic Mexican and Thai dinners. Mexican I’ve always loved and my wife, who is Thai, has introduced me to some great Thai dishes. I think when I get home on this leave, all I’ll do is eat, sleep, drink, play with my boy, and get reacquainted with the wife (but not necessarily in that order).
