Well, now that I’m back in Iraq, I’ve started scanning the net looking to see what I missed during my three days of travel. All I can say is “wow”. So many blogging opportunities, so little time. Let’s start with this.

In a recent speech, the Pope quoted a 14th Century Byzantine monarch who had some not so nice things to say about Islam and its prophet, Mohammed. Naturally, what he said was taken out of context and turned into another form of Muslim hysterical reaction. Much like the Danish cartoons controversy, this is just another pretext for more Danish / Isreali /American / British / Name-a-western-country flag burning and calls for Jihad against all Christians. Great.

The Pope gave an apology, but of course it wasn’t accepted and the calls for his murder and the killing of all Christians resounded throughout the Muslim world. Can we please stop calling it the “religion of peace” already?

Here’s a great little video from Michelle Malkin and the crew at Hot Air, saying it better than I. Also, here’s another video from Riehl World demonstrating the moral wasteland of Islamofascists everywhere.

Now, according to Rosie O’Donnell, speaking recently on The View, militant Islam is equivalent or not even as bad as “radical Christianity” here in the United States. Hello? What the hell are you talking about?

When was the last time Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, or any of the other colorful “radical” Christians called for the murder of all Muslims? When was the last time, on a global scale, Christians rose up, marched in the streets, and demanded death to all that did not believe? When was the last time a Christian - anywhere in the world - marched himself onto a bus full of innocents and blew himself up - all in the name of God?

Well, this wasn’t the first televised left-wing assault from ol’ Rosie. Remember the hyprocritical ambush of Tom Selleck? Bet she didn’t warn him ahead of time he was going to be debated. Yep, everything started off so nice, and then, without warning, she body-slammed him on national TV. Nice.

On to the illegal immigration problem, and I saw this little article.

WOODBURN, Ore. (AP) — Inching along the dusty field under a broiling sun, Simon Santol tossed garlic bulbs into buckets and chatted with the other stooped-over Mexican workers. The conversation wasn’t in Spanish.

Instead, they spoke Santol’s native Triqui, or Mixtec, Zapotec or other languages indigenous to the poorest regions of Mexico. Many of the workers can barely get by in English or Spanish.

“It was hard at first,” the 28-year-old Santol said in halting Spanish. “We would look for someone who spoke our language and Spanish. Now I have learned a little Spanish. Grace of God.”

Immigrants who have not adopted Spanish or English can struggle to find housing, jobs and fair interest rates, advocate groups say. Navigating the legal system is tricky - sometimes it’s difficult just to communicate.

Great. This whole illegal immigration thing just keeps getting better. Read the whole story here, at the Washington Post.
