Let the bodies hit the floor
While I was home on leave, the metal band Drowning Pool visited my base in Iraq (naturally). Headbanger that I am, I was looking forward to that visit and I’m kind of disappointed I didn’t get to see it.
DP isn’t my favorite band. In fact, I know of only one of their songs, and that’s because it was used in a video originally posted at GrouchyMedia.com. The video is called “Taliban-Bodies” and it features the DP song “Bodies” in a hard-driving video showing military hardware in action. Grouchymedia specializes in those types of videos. Here’s the video, pulled from YouTube.
Because it’s very pro-military, most service members both in the Middle East and throughout the world have seen that video. So, it was no big surprise that plenty of people showed up for the concert - if only just to hear that song. Here’s the song in it’s entirety, off of MTV.
Another even bigger performer that has visited my neck o’ Iraq was Toby Keith. Naturally, I was off-base when that show happened too (figures). I was in Baghdad at the time going to a class, and I had seriously considered blowing off that class in order to see the show. The fact that I was the guy who planned and coordinated all of the security for the show had something to do with it too! Now, I am not a country fan at all. But, Toby Keith has come out with several pro-military songs, so I have to give the man props. From everything I’ve heard, he was a nice guy and did his best to accomadate fan requests for autographs, photos, and the like. Here’s my favorite Toby Keith song.
