Poor little Dixie Chicks
I really dislike the Dixie Chicks, and here’s why.
They are now on a crusade to promote free speech, and that’s all well and good. I believe in free speech, but there are always consequences to that speech. For example, as a member of the armed forces, I cannot just say whatever I want in this blog. I can’t criticize my superior officers without expecting one of them to read or hear about it, and then hold me accountable for it. It would be the same if I worked in the civilian world. If I was bashing my employer, I should not expect for that employer to continue to pay me to work there.
The Dixie Chicks learned that the hard way. Sure, free speech is great. However, the Dixie Chicks’ employer - the majority of people who bought their music and went to their concerts - felt, in the main, very differently than they did about President Bush and our efforts in Iraq. So, their “employer” decided not to pay them any more. So, the lesson they learned was to Shut Up and Sing.
