Saddam the peace hero
You wouldn’t think Saddam Hussein would be the most popular person in Iraq, and you would generally be right. After all, he did gas the Kurds and murdered and tortured anyone who stood in his way - or looked at him cross-eyed.
So, it was rather surprising when the signs below showed up affixed to a couple of light poles on the base I’m at. The translations follow. As the signs were painted just like some Arabic street signs we already have here, they went unnoticed by most of us English-speakers until one of our translators pointed them out to us. Needless to say, they didn’t last very long.

“Saddam is the symbol of bravery”
There was another sign that read “Jerusalem is for us” on one side, and “Victory for Iraq” on the other. As the signs looked weathered, I’m guessing somebody had these tucked away somewhere and decided to hang them up. We have over 200 Iraqi workers who come and go from the FOB everyday, so I have no doubt the enemy is in our midst.

“Saddam the symbol of bravery”?! They believe this even after he was pulled out of his cat hole?!
Saddam needs to be executed now.
Ahahah! Serves you right for invading a country whose lingo you don’t know… I’ve just had this vision of you idiots stroling by in your own base with signs that praise thy enemy, ahahah!
What an ass-wipe. You’re right, we should only invade countries run by murdering dictators where English is the predominant language. Oops, wait, there are none!
By the way, it was an Iraqi that pointed the signs out to us. Apparantly, not all Iraqis are against our presence.
