Trip home
15 hours is the flight time from Kuwait to Pope AFB, North Carolina. I know, because I timed it. Well, 15 hours including about an hour in Leipzig, Germany to refuel the plane.
We stopped at Pope to let the Fort Bragg soldiers off the plane. There was a battery of artillerymen, which, like nearly all artillery batteries in Iraq, did something other than artillery. Actually, they did convoy security - which is pretty typical. I know other artillerymen doing the same thing.
From Pope AFB we got back on the plane in order to fly to Ft. Bliss, Texas - the final spot we were to land at. That flight took another five hours. Once at Bliss, we got our weapons put into an armory so we didn’t have to drag them around with us everywhere. We are now looking at five days of fun in the sun at Fort Bliss, which is near El Paso.
