All of my problems are "because of Iraq"
I have posted here and here about the fraud that is Joshua Lansdale and his participation in a political ad from VoteVets.org. Go to those links to see the ad in question, and how it suggests that our involvement in Iraq is to blame for just about every issue that faces the United States today.
In the meantime, I’ve been thinking about all the things that affected my life - “because of Iraq”.
Because of Iraq…
- I missed out on some great parties
- I had to watch Monday Night Football on Tuesday mornings
- I was forced to smoke Cuban cigars instead of Guatemalans
- I was deprived of good Mexican food (but the Turkish wasn’t bad)
- I was forced to watch bad public-service spots on AFN
- I had to deal with really slow internet
- I had a lot of “honey do’s” when I got back
- I missed my boy growing up
- I did A LOT of walking
- I made an extra $20,000 for the year
- No playing America’s Army
- I got to see Kuwait, Qatar, and oh yeah, Iraq
- I had to deal with Iraqi governmental corruption
- I found out that Iraqi children learn to say “hello” and “Mister, Mister” as soon as they can talk
- My truck back home didn’t get maintained and it had a lot of issues when I got back
- My home’s sprinkler system broke and I had to get a neighbor to help my wife with it
- One of my soldiers was hurt by a road-side bomb (not badly, he’s OK)
- Got rocketed a few times, but never very close
- Learned to drive it like I stole it
- Gained a greater appreciation for the care and feeding of my firearms
- I made some life-long friendships
- I learned how NOT to act as a commander
- I made some good contacts in the contract security business (won’t be in the Army forever, you know)
- I had a kinda crappy Thanksgiving and Christmas
- My love life really sucked for a year
