As a young photojournalist, I admired James Nachtwey’s photographic story-telling of the world’s wars. His 1989 book “Deeds of War” showed both the brutality and the humanity of those swept up in the conflicts of that era - soldier and civilian alike. It was one of the first photojournalism books I ever bought.

Nachtwey now has a series of images on display at National Geographic, showing the latest conflict we now face, Operation Iraqi Freedom, the magnificent medical technicians who take care of our wounded warriors, and the determination of those wounded to get back to a normal life. I encourage you to examine them in detail.

Myself, I teared up a couple of times.
