Veterans Day
As a veteran of our current, on-going war on terrorism, I would be remiss if I didn’t have at least one post regarding Veterans Day.
My plan for this day is to attend one of the local Veterans Day parades. I’m planning to go to one of the smaller ones, near my home, with my 3-year-old. He doesn’t fully appreciate the significance of the day, but if he gets to see some marchers, bands, floats, and some older folks in historical uniforms - it’s all good. I haven’t quite got him indoctrinated into wanting to grow up to be an “Army man” yet, but I’m working on it.
In the meantime, here’s a good editorial out of the Washington Post that does a pretty good job of explaining what Veterans Day means in our current global conflict.
And, from Redstate, an excellent post about a veteran Marine who gave his life for his fellow warriors. I highly recommend you read that one, as it is all the more poignant on this particular day.
Update - Scanning the more popular Liberal blogs, I see no mention of Veterans Day - good, bad, or indifferent. Yeah, you guys are big supporters of the troops.
It’s possible my RSS reader didn’t pick up all posts, but I didn’t have any problem finding salutes to veterans on the conservative blogs.
Update - Well, I finally found some references to Vet’s Day. Of course, they were references used to bash Bush. Nice.
