Not giving up on Iraq
It appears that Pres. Bush is unwilling to give up on Iraq, and I applaud him for it. Between the talk of a troop surge, and a reshuffling of top leadership, it appears that the Commander-In-Chief is determined to turn the Iraq situation around.
Opposing him, of course, are the Democrats — pushed by their loony left. Caving in to the Cindy Sheehan types, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid sent a letter to the president yesterday DEMANDING no increase in troop strength. There is talk among Demos of refusing to pay for any increase in troop strength. Since the legislature holds the purse strings, they may be able to get away with it.
I know things haven’t gone as well as we had hoped in Iraq, but I hate seeing this country commit itself to an endeavor, spend this amount of capital and lives, and then cave on the deal — only to watch Iraq go up in flames. Having been part of this point in history, it especially vexes me that the government that sent me over there to do a job, would pull the rug out from under the mission before it is completed.
What will history record, 10 years after a pull-out? To the Islamicists, it will prove the U.S. is a paper tiger, unwilling to go the distance, and that they are the more powerful and noble cause.
