I finally see ‘300′

All I can say is “wow”. Actually, I can say a lot more…
I saw another writer call it a great piece of propaganda (in a positive way), and I can see his point. As a work of art, extolling the virtues we generally cherish in the Western culture, and showing the valiant warrior defending his home, family, country, and way of life - ‘300′ certainly hits the mark.
Based on the historical Battle of Thermopylae, King Leonidas of Sparta, 300 of his hand-picked, and an assortment of Greeks from other city-states, attempt to hold off a horde of invading Persians under the command of Xerxes. The Spartans know they are severely out-numbered and use natural defenses to channel the Persian army into a pass that removes their numerical advantage. The Spartans and their allies hold out for several days, but are eventually undone when a Greek traitor tells Xerxes of a path around the back of the defending Greeks. Surrounded, the Spartans put up a terrific fight but are eventually destroyed - to include King Leonidas.
The movie extols the virtues of the civilization we in the West live in - democracy (only the Spartan senate could approve a full war against the Persians), freedom, duty, honor and country. It describes the honor of serving and fighting for your country - as a professional, volunteer soldier rather than conscripted “amateur”. It also points out the evil of the self-centered and weak-willed - those who would rather sell out their countrymen and bow to an oppressor than support their fellow countrymen fighting against the invader.
The left, in general, does nothing but whine about this movie. Yet, it’s booming at the box office. Perhaps the ideals it imparts makes weak men squirm?
Bonus - the Iranian government hates this move. Sweet!
