This guy, Jesse Macbeth, was at one time the darling of some of the anti-war crowd because he claimed to be a veteran of the Iraq War, a Ranger no less, who had murdered innocent Iraqis. He claimed his killings were all part of his unit’s mission and was done purposefully.

He, of course, was lying. Macbeth never was in the Rangers. In fact, he never was in the U.S. Army. That didn’t keep groups like Peacefilms.org and Iraq Veterans Against the War from embracing him as one of their anti-war heroes (they’ve since dropped him).

Well, Jesse’s lies have caught up with him. Not only was he outed by REAL Rangers and REAL veterans, but he has now been charged with falsifying his record and attempting to secure veterans’ benefits with that falsified record.

Macbeth garnered much attention on blogs and in some alternative media after he began claiming in 2005 to have been awarded a Purple Heart for his service, which he said included slaughtering innocent civilians in a Fallujah mosque.

A complaint unsealed Friday in U.S. District Court in Seattle charged 23-year-old Jesse Adam Macbeth with one count of using or possessing a forged or altered military discharge certificate, and one count of making false statements in seeking benefits from the Veterans Administration.

His story was contradicted by his true discharge form, showing that he was kicked out of the Army after six weeks at Fort Benning, Ga., in 2003 because of his “entry level performance and conduct.”

That means, gentle reader, that he couldn’t handle basic training and was kicked out prior to assignment to any actual Army unit, let alone the Rangers.

Charging papers said Macbeth claimed to have served from May 2001 to June 2004, to have been shot in Iraq and to have suffered post-traumatic stress disorder. The papers said he collected more than $10,400 in benefits to which he was not entitled.

If you can stomach it, here’s an interview with more than 10 minutes of complete and unadulterated lies. What amazes me is, this thing is still at YouTube.
