The war you almost never hear about
Sadly, our fighting men and women in Afghanistan are often forgotten. Although the war has gone on far longer than the war in Iraq, the latter conflict seems to get all the headlines and attention.
No one seems to care that we are in Afghanistan. Casualties are far less than those in Iraq, bombings of civilians are less pronounced, and there was a definite direct tie between the former Taliban government and 9-11. So, it’s kind of the “politically correct” war.
Talking to OEF veterans, they tell me that when people ask them if they’ve been “over there”, those folks are almost always referring to Iraq. When those soldiers say they are Afghanistan veterans, their questioners clam up, not really knowing what more there is to talk about.
So, in my ongoing campaign to honor our fighting men and women, I give to you this piece from 60 Minutes about Navy SEALs operating in that other part of the global war on terrorism.
