The “race flag” pulled on illegal use of the “race card”
I was in a Church’s Chicken the other day, in a not particularly nice part of town. I was passing through the area, and had decided to pick up something for the family on the way home.
I was standing in line, and in comes a gentleman who was obviously homeless - unkempt, very dirty clothes, etc. He sat down near the front counter. One of the Church’s employees comes to the counter and the following exchange occurs:
“Sir, the manager talked to you yesterday, and he said you can’t come in here anymore,” said the employee.
“All I want is a chicken leg, then I’ll leave!” replied the homeless man.
“Sir, the manager told you, you can’t come in here all the time begging for food. You have to leave.”
“I ain’t done nothin’, I ain’t stole nothin’. Why do I have to leave?”
“Sir, we’ve already talked to you about this. You have to leave.”
Then, it happened - the race card was pulled.
“Why is this, because I’m Black?!?” (I groaned inside when I heard it.)
“Sir, you know darned well that has nothing to do with it. You have to leave, ” said the Hispanic employee.
Finally, the homeless man got up and left, muttering to himself.
I was reminded of that event, when I saw the following video. Mildly amusing, and rather enlightening to those of us who had that card pulled on us from time to time.
