Via Confederate Yankee, CNN attempted to show what the fuel-air explosive VBIEDs in London and Glasgow could have done as far as damage - if they had worked properly.

Commissioning some egg-heads from New Mexico Tech to build a similar bomb, CNN attempted to show us what just what the jihadis had attempted to build. I watched breathlessly, waiting for the mighty explosion. After all, said one of the NMT smart guys, “it will turn this vehicle into shrapnel”.

Um, not quite.

There’s a rather long lead up, and then the aforementioned mighty explosion.

OK, it’s not something you want going off in the middle of a packed street in New Orleans during the height of Mardi Gras, but it isn’t really that big an explosion. Mostly, just a lot of flaming gasoline getting pushed out. I wouldn’t want to be standing next to it, but 100 yards away and you’d barely feel the heat. And the Jeep? Yeah, it was burned up, but hardly turned to shrapnel.

What does all this prove? That the jihadi doctors weren’t really good bomb makers - because their bombs didn’t even work. Or, they couldn’t get access to high-grade explosives, so they improvised (thus the letter “I” in IED).

But should we really discount all of this? Yeah, these guys were terrorist amateurs. But, if nothing else, it shows real intent on the part of Islamic jihadis living in the West to perpetrate IED and VBIED attacks in our cities and neighborhoods. The left is mostly poo-pooing these guys, but this can only be the start. Terrorists are very good at learning from their and others’ mistakes and accomplishments.

The next round of car bombs in London, New York, or Los Angeles will likely not be as great a failure.
