Liberals are moving to Canada. My response? “See you, wouldn’t want to be you!”
Via Newsbusters, ABC News is reporting that many disgruntled (read, liberal) Americans are moving north to Canada - the most in decades.
The number of U.S. citizens who moved to Canada last year hit a 30-year high, with a 20 percent increase over the previous year and almost double the number who moved in 2000.
In 2006, 10,942 Americans went to Canada, compared with 9,262 in 2005 and 5,828 in 2000, according to a survey by the Association for Canadian Studies.
Of course, triple that number moved from Canada to the United States during that time, but whatever.
One recent immigrant is Tom Kertes, a 34-year-old labor organizer who moved from Seattle to Toronto in April.
Kertes attributes his motivation to President Bush’s opposition to gay marriage, and the tactics employed during the war on terror since 9/11.
“I wanted a country that respected my human rights and the rights of others,” he says. “We joked about it after Bush won re-election, but it took us a while to go through the application.”
Well, you just go on up there and get your rights respected Tommy. Well, all of your rights except this one.
Kertes, who moved with his partner, is happy in his new home. “Canada is a really nice country. My mother is thinking about it. My stepfather has diabetes and has health issues. So, he’d be taken care of for free if he moved up here.”
Hmm, a brand new immigrant to a country, and already expecting free health care. Now that’s a liberal alright - or an illegal alien in the U.S.

Good riddance. Feel sorry for Canadians who actually have sense, though.
Damn! Why couldn’t more be joining them…
I’m sure the Ward Churchill types in this country would be more than welcome in the socialist paradise of Canada…
OK . . . I gotta ask Double Tap, This Guy & Juandos-
Are you guys for real? Who the fuck cares if you can bring a gun or not. Maybe, just maybe people are leaving America to get away from that shit. (Gotta have my gun . . .)
But, more likely, people (myself included) just want to get away from asssholes like YOU.
Canada is a decent place to live. It has it’s faults, but at least my taxes are now going to help keep the wonderful infrastructure (roads, schools, health care, public transprotation, etc) top notch. Yes, everybody here uses these services - not just poor people. You guys will have a huge wake-up call real soon. Like around the time the U.S. economy totally collapses because of the out-of-control U.S. budget and trade deficit. I know, that stuff is way over your head . . . maybe that’s the problem. Geeeeze . . . you right (but wrong) Americans are so self-centered and arrogant.
As I said… good riddance.
And with comments like this: “Geeeeze . . . you right (but wrong) Americans are so self-centered and arrogant.”
You have no place to call anyone arrogant. You come off as one of those elitist lefties that think they’re always right, when in reality their head is so far up their ass that they wouldn’t know if something was in fact a wrong idea if it cockslapped them in the face.
I actually agree with you about the economy - it’s looking like it did back in 1929, just before the Great Depression. The sooner we can achieve victory in this war on radical Islam, the sooner we can fix that, so it won’t collapse.
Tell your liberal hippy counterparts here in the States to stop acting like whiny little children so we can actually finish this war the way it’s supposed to be finished - with victory, not with a Vietnam-type withdrawal. Maybe then we’ll actually get something done.
Thank you for proving my point.
From calling the illegal invasion of Iraq a “war on radical Islam” to calling me and others like me “liberal hippy” was just priceless. (I haven’t heard “hippie” since the 70’s.)
The rest I’ve heard before . . . . you wouldn’t happen to watch Fox News would ya??
I would never claim to always be right about anything . . . but I will state an opinion and back it up with facts. When this opinion is answered with name-calling using 30 year old terms, the ignorance displayed is just plain pitiful. Truly would NOT want to be you.
So, enjoy your decline in the U.S. because with you and your counterparts totally buying into the “victory in Iraq” spin while ignoring the real problems facing America, things will never get any better. Want proof? Try recent U.S. history from 2000 to present.
Hate to break it to you, but there’s plenty of hippies around. A quick visit to zombietime (www.zombietime.com/sf_anti-war_rally_oct_27_2007/) will prove that point. Sure, they’re less likely to be wearing flowers in their hair, and more likely to be wearing Che Guevera t-shirts, but they’re still full of the same neo-communist crap.
Just looking at some of zombietime’s photos, and you can almost smell the patuli oil on those unwashed bodies.
And thank you for proving my accusations. You ARE an elitist lefty, and thus cannot be reasoned with, for you no longer have any common sense at all. You’ve done enough breathing, put your head back in there.
And, I’d like to ask you - since when did UN sovereignty override our own as a nation? It’s a toothless piece of crap meeting room for all things anti-Western, and mainly anti-American. I wouldn’t trust them to govern a sewer system, much less the world.
Interesting link, Double Tap . . . so those are hippies? OK. But there is obviously a big difference between the way you and I look at them. I see Americans who are concerned for their country and wanting change by exercising their right to free speech and lawful assembly and protest. I don’t agree with most of what they say, but then I don’t have to. If they did bother me, I’d simply ignore them. It looks like zombietime is obsessed with them. It appears you think they smell bad. Whatever.
As for This Guy . . . I’m not sure what post you were responding to . . . who mentioned the U.N.? Anyway, being called an elitist lefty by you (for the 2nd time) is a compliment. Thank you. You see, I’m proud of who I am and I’m also proud to be an American. I am NOT proud however, of what America has become - which includes people like you who claim to be patriotic.
Tell me . . . what’s patriotic about our troops dying for a war based on lies and the benefit of war profiteers? What’s patriotic about diminishing the rights and liberties of Americans after terrorists strike? What’s patriotic about supporting a president who has lied, caused the deaths of many Americans, is completely incompetent and only cares about the rich ? What is patriotic about giving American jobs to other countries?
In truth, This Guy, I don’t expect an intelligent retort . . . I’ll probably get the elite leftist and head-up-my-ass treatment for the THIRD TIME.
I suppose when you mention the ‘illegal invasion’ you were referring to our decision to do this without the UN’s permission.
“Tell me . . . what’s patriotic about our troops dying for a war based on lies and the benefit of war profiteers?”
OK then. Since you dislike the Iraq war (since this WAS planned since the Clinton administration - Clinton claimed that he had WMDs as well!), what do you think we should do about Darfur? If you say that it is to go in there and help them, you are a hypocrite. The war profiteers will benefit there too (as pointed out by Double Tap in another blog he posted).
Also… exactly WHAT lies did he tell?
“What’s patriotic about diminishing the rights and liberties of Americans after terrorists strike?”
Exactly what rights have we given up?
“What’s patriotic about supporting a president who has lied, caused the deaths of many Americans”
What lies? Causing deaths? You obviously have been watching the news a bit too much.
Here are some stats for you.

Figures noted with an asterisk (*) indicates deaths as a result of Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
Please note that more military people died in Bill Clinton’s terms of office due to accidents and Somalia than have died in Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation Enduring Freedom.
“is completely incompetent”
Be specific.
“and only cares about the rich”
Specify.
“What is patriotic about giving American jobs to other countries?”
There isn’t anything patriotic about that. I don’t support it.
Bush ain’t perfect, but he ain’t the damn devil either.
The point of me posting those stats (I forgot to include that in my other post) was to point out the fact that no more military deaths have occurred in this war than what would normally have occurred in peacetime. We are doing an excellent job in Iraq.
I’m NOT going to make an essay out of this because I neither have the time nor feel it would accomplish anything. The evidence is out there and asking me to specify is ludicrous.
I will however, just ask one simple question that will encompass all the issues of our interesting altercation:
For what reason did the U.S. invaded Iraq?
And, I mean the REAL reason. Because we ALL know and IT HAS BEEN PROVEN that the reasons given so far have been LIES:
Iraq (Saddam) was in any way responsible for the 9/11/01 attacks. FALSE
Iraq (Saddam) had WMDs and were preparing to use them against us. FALSE
Iraq (Saddam) had sought uranium rods from Africa for use in making nuclear weapons. FALSE
We’re fighting “them” (Al-Qaeda, I guess) over there, so we don’t have to fight” them” here. FALSE (not to mention insulting)
And, after you’ve answered that question, tell me that you could actually look a family member of a fallen soldier in the eye and say to them, “We are doing an excellent job in Iraq.”
And finally, you are right in that the invasion of Iraq was planned during the Clinton administration. Trouble is, Clinton had NOTHING to do with it. Yes, he kept a watchful eye on Saddam AND Bin Laden. (something Bush did not do) The plan for the invasion of Iraq AND Iran to prevent domination of energy supplies came from Kristol, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Libby, Abrams, Bolton and Perle (and others) who founded the Project for a New American Century (PNAC). To this day, their agenda is being played out and if anyone believes otherwise is truly living in denial.
Trouble is, this is all way below the radar and way too complicated for the average American. That is why the false reasons above play so well when proclaimed on Fox News.
I smell bullshit. Is it that you cannot tell me those cases that I asked you to specify because you simply don’t have it?
We invaded for the WMDs. As with any war of this nature, the objectives may change during the course of events that take place. And another thing: I don’t care WHY we went to war. That’s over and done with. We’re already there. But when we start something, we should be seeing it through, not pulling out and leaving a fucking mess because a few people who aren’t grounded in reality think that it is an illegal invasion.
Al-Qaeda is now in Iraq. We’ve already established that. We’ve also kicked Al-Qaeda’s ass so far, which is why Iraq happens to be stabilizing at this point in time.
“And finally, you are right in that the invasion of Iraq was planned during the Clinton administration. ”
Clinton had everything to do with it. His own words, on the steps of the Pentagon in 1998:
“On February 17, President Clinton spoke on the steps of the Pentagon. The president declared that the great danger confronting the U.S. and its allies was the “threat Iraq poses now-a rogue state with weapons of mass destruction, ready to use them or provide them to terrorists, drug traffickers, or organized criminals who travel the world among us unnoticed.” Before the Gulf War of 1991, he noted, “Saddam had built up a terrible arsenal, and he had used it. Not once, but many times in a decade-long war with Iran, he used chemical weapons against combatants, against civilians, against a foreign adversary and even against his own people.”28
Clinton furthered explained that:
Iraq “admitted, among other things, an offensive biological warfare capability, notably, 5,000 gallons of botulinum, which causes botulism; 2,000 gallons of anthrax; 25 biological-filled Scud warheads; and 157 aerial bombs. And I might say UNSCOM inspectors believe that Iraq has actually greatly understated its production. . . .
“Over the past few months, as [the weapons inspectors] have come closer and closer to rooting out Iraq’s remaining nuclear capacity, Saddam has undertaken yet another gambit to thwart their ambitions by imposing debilitating conditions on the inspectors and declaring key sites which have still not been inspected off limits . . . .
“It is obvious that there is an attempt here, based on the whole history of this operation since 1991, to protect whatever remains of his capacity to produce weapons of mass destruction, the missiles to deliver them, and the feed stocks necessary to produce them. The UNSCOM inspectors believe that Iraq still has stockpiles of chemical and biological munitions, a small force of Scud-type missiles, and the capacity to restart quickly its production program and build many, many more weapons. . . .
“Now, let’s imagine the future. What if he fails to comply and we fail to act, or we take some ambiguous third route, which gives him yet more opportunities to develop this program of weapons of mass destruction and continue to press for the release of the sanctions and continue to ignore the solemn commitments that he made? Well, he will conclude that the international community has lost its will. He will then conclude that he can go right on and do more to rebuild an arsenal of devastating destruction. And some day, some way, I guarantee you he’ll use the arsenal. . . .”
As for the last part of that paragraph, and this: “Trouble is, this is all way below the radar and way too complicated for the average American. That is why the false reasons above play so well when proclaimed on Fox News.”
Maybe it’s way below the radar and “way too complicated for the average American” because it’s goddamn false, and most people (I would hope!) have more sense than to buy into conspiracy theories that are just fucking stupid. Living in denial? No, we’re living in reality. A reality in which you look rather stupid for even buying into that inane bullshit.
Pfft. Why am I even wasting my time. You go on and keep your ignorance. I know what I see, and I know what I’m going to fight for. Yeah, I would be able to look a fallen Soldier’s family in the face and tell them that we are doing an excellent job, that he died for a noble cause, and that he did his best. I would hope they’d do the same with mine. Something you would never understand, because you apparently have never had the backbone to fight anything but your own imagined enemy.
And when I look them in the face and tell them we’re doing an excellent job, I will be secure in the fact that I am telling the truth, having seen it and been a part of it myself.
(last post)
Instead of having to tell that same family that, due to the God-forsaken defeatists in this country, we left a job undone, and their son/daughter died for nothing.
You don’t care why we went to war? That’s incredible . . . and convenient. I was REALLY hoping you wouldn’t come back with the “We’re already there, so let’s finish it” mentality. It’s like saying “we really screwed up . . . so let’s continue screwing up.” Why would more soldiers dying make it any less of a mistake? That’s simply insane.
And as I said . . . Clinton kept an eye on the Iraq situation and yes, he talked about it a lot. Fortunately, like George Bush, Sr, he realized an invasion was not the answer and would be a disaster. Turns out he and George were right. But, like many others of your ilk, you wanna blame everything on Clinton . . . . amazingly typical.
“Trying to eliminate Saddam…would have incurred incalculable human and political costs. Apprehending him was probably impossible…. We would have been forced to occupy Baghdad and, in effect, rule Iraq…. there was no viable “exit strategy” we could see, violating another of our principles. Furthermore, we had been self-consciously trying to set a pattern for handling aggression in the post-Cold War world. Going in and occupying Iraq, thus unilaterally exceeding the United Nations’ mandate, would have destroyed the precedent of international response to aggression that we hoped to establish. Had we gone the invasion route, the United States could conceivably still be an occupying power in a bitterly hostile land.”
- - From Geo. Bush, Sr. memoir, “A World Transformed” (1998)
So, PNAC is a conspiracy theory? Then, I guess this website is an illusion:
http://www.newamericancentury.org/
And, I guess thousands of journalists, writers (including many who worked in the Bush White House) are just making all this shit up.
Look . . . you’re right. Although it’s been interesting sparing with you and believe it or not, I do respect you and your opinions . . . but yes, I think we are both wasting our time.
You and I are living proof of how severely divided America has become. We are fellow Americans but this present day atmosphere of hate, division and fear is taking it’s toll. Across the board, rather than working together to solve the more urgent and immediate problems, Americans are fighting each other and it WILL be our downfall.
So, I’ll give you the last word and I hope you’re happy living in the U.S. I am and will remain a U.S. citizen, but right now, I’m very happy living in Canada.
Wow, all that because a liberal troll didn’t like what we said about a very few American liberals moving to Canada to escape all the so-called “repression” here in the U.S. Meanwhile, a far greater percentage of Canadians are leaving that country to come down to the lower 48 to enjoys all the benefits of living in the U.S.
Like I said in the original post, if you don’t want to be in the greatest country on God’s green earth, then get the eff out. We don’t need you, nor do we want you. Just don’t get your panties in a knot when we say “good riddance”.
Yup.
muse: if the liberals weren’t working to undermine this country at every turn, we wouldn’t be turning inward to fight each other.
Oh, and some facts for you. WMDs were found in Iraq.
