Russia getting froggy
And by “froggy”, I mean they are trying to act tough and throw their weight around. Watch the clip and see what I mean.
Apparently, since the United States hasn’t been afraid of them or paying them any mind lately, they need to start flexing some muscles (literally) to get themselves back on the West’s radar screen.
Given the fact that the muscles they are trying to flex consist of bombers designed back in the early 60’s, I’m not entirely impressed. However, since the Russkies still have plenty of ICBMs in their inventory, we can’t completely discount them.
I don’t think anyone in today’s U.S. military thinks the Soviet bear is anything like the threat we believed we faced back in the 80’s. After the fall of the Soviet Union, we soon learned that the 10-foot Soviet soldier turned out to be more like 5-foot-9, was poorly equipped and paid, and often didn’t have fuel or ammunition for his tanks and aircraft.
Russia is now even smaller than its former Soviet self, is surrounded by several republics that want to have nothing to do with their former masters, its military is in poor condition, and has to sell seats on its space launches to wealthy Westerners to help fund its space program. In all, it’s not the immense threat we once faced.
