I bought a Bushmaster M4 clone recently, and decked it out with all the goodies I wished I had had while in Iraq. That included an Eotech Holosight, rails, a front grip, a back-up iron sight, and the Surefire Scout Light I was issued in while in Iraq. If you are at all into the shooting sports, you would have to agree with me that this thing is friggin’ sweet.

Anyway, rather than fight the crowds on Black Friday, I decided to do what any red-blooded American male should do in such a situation - I bought several boxes of ammo and went shootin’. I was feeling all family and such after seeing the clan yesterday, so I invited my mother, my sister, her fiance, and my teenage niece to go with me. Amazingly enough, they actually showed up.

My future brother-in-law is a member of the Greens, which really makes him a bit of the odd man out in my fairly conservative family. But, you wouldn’t know it from his enjoyment of shooting. I thought all super liberals hated guns, but he seems cool with it. Go figure.

My mother, who’s in her mid-sixties, also came out. She’s interested in getting a pistol for personal protection, but from the way she was shooting, I jokingly suggested that she should just count on scaring the crap out of her assailant, rather than hope for actually hitting him. She laughed and said that would probably be good enough.

I did get a couple of them to shoot my Bushmaster, after they got over their initial intimidation. Really, with the minimal kick of that rifle, they had little to fear. It just looks intimidating. But, I guess that’s why there’s plenty of people out there trying to ban their sale.

UPDATE - A request was made for a pic of my new rifle, so here it is:
