Are terrorists targeting churches in America?
What’s with all the mass shootings right now?
First, we have the mall shooter in Omaha. That guy was the typical loser who wanted to take a few innocents with him.
Now, we have a series of attacks on churches, both of them in Colorado. These however, don’t seem to fit the same M.O. as those other shootings.
DENVER (Reuters) - Three people were shot to death and six were wounded in Colorado on Sunday in two church-related shootings in the U.S. Christian heartland.
A gunman — described by an eyewitness as dressed in black, wearing combat boots and holding an assault rifle and at least one handgun — wounded four people when he opened fire in the parking lot of the vast New Life evangelical church in Colorado Springs, Colorado, after Sunday services, police said.
A New Life church security guard shot and killed the gunman before police arrived on the scene, Colorado Springs police chief Richard Myers told a news conference.
Police did not identify the gunman. There were about 7,000 people in the building when shooting erupted, a pastor said.
In an earlier incident, 70 miles away, a man who entered a Christian missionary training center in the Denver suburb of Arvada with a handgun killed two young missionaries and wounded two others shortly after midnight, police said.
The Arvada gunman, also dressed in dark clothing, fled on foot in the snow.
Those two in Colorado look suspiciously related, perhaps being the same guy. Or, two individuals working in conjunction. Since the Arvada shooter didn’t stick around to commit suicide either at his own hand or by police, one wonders if he wasn’t the mentally deranged loner - but was instead a religiously deranged terrorist.
Hats off to the New Life security guard who ended that event before it got any worse, and kudos to the New Life church for hiring him. The police can’t be everywhere, and if New Life hadn’t increased it’s security, who knows how badly that incident would have gotten. With 7,000 people packed together like that, it could have been even more horrific. Sometimes, we need protect ourselves.
UPDATE - Uh oh, it’s looking worse. It turns out the New Life shooter was wearing a tactical helmet and body armor. This doesn’t sound like some messed up kid, this sounds like a guy on a mission.
UPDATE - The Denver police are saying the New Life and Arvada shooting, 13 hours apart, were linked.
