New Orleans police confiscated guns from law-abiding citizens
I know I’ve been on a Second Amendment kick lately, but I keep running across pieces that prove that the right to keep and bear arms is the right of every law-abiding American citizen. Whether you like it or not, it’s in the Constitution.
During Hurricane Katrina, Mayor Nagin (a Democrat) ordered the confiscation of every firearm from every citizen in the city. Citizens, who had done nothing to show that they had any criminal intent, had their guns taken away from them with nary a receipt. At best, they were told to get a lawyer to try to get them back. At worst, you were a little old lady who got herself pummeled (see the video). Mind you, this was during a time when real criminals were roaming the area, looking for easy targets to steal from. If I had been in that situation, I would have been armed to the teeth.
The first thing dictators do when they take over is strip their citizens of their weapons - because an armed citizenry may just rebel. Democratically elected governments need not fear their citizenry, because they freely elected their leaders. I generally am a big supporter of the police, but this was just plain wrong. Shameful!

Ah, yes. I remember this. That is shameful.
Snatch all legal weapons in an emergency and leave the law-abiding citizens helpless… as only a liberal would…
Well the cowardly police didn’t bother apparently to go after those who were using (and still are using) firearms illegally…
Remember this from two years ago? Homicide rate nowhere near ’94 peak but still 10 times national average
