MAJ Andrew Olmsted, an Army officer and military blogger, died recently in Iraq from an IED. I didn’t know the gentleman, but going back through some of his old posts, I realize what a witty, articulate blogger he was.

Olmsted had given up blogging full-time because of the many DoD rules against persons in the military speaking their minds. He felt like he couldn’t say the things he really wanted to say, so it was kind of pointless. If you’ve read me at all, you’ll know that I’ve been frustrated by the same rules, and seriously considered giving it up myself. Still, I persevere.

Swing by his blog and check out that final post. Published by a friend, he details his final thoughts to the world. And, to those who might use his name in any kind of political statement, he says the following:

…while you’re free to think whatever you like about my life and death, if you think I wasted my life, I’ll tell you you’re wrong. We’re all going to die of something. I died doing a job I loved. When your time comes, I hope you are as fortunate as I was.

Amen, brother.
