U.S. to attack Iranian terrorist training camps?
Whenever I see a report like this, the first thing that crosses my mind is, “Isn’t this stuff supposed to be a secret? What good does it do to tell them we’re coming?”
The US military is drawing up plans for a “surgical strike” against an insurgent training camp inside Iran if Republican Guards continue with attempts to destabilise Iraq, western intelligence sources said last week. One source said the Americans were growing increasingly angry at the involvement of the Guards’ special-operations Quds force inside Iraq, training Shi’ite militias and smuggling weapons into the country.

…US commanders are increasingly concerned by Iranian interference in Iraq and are determined that recent successes by joint Iraqi and US forces in the southern port city of Basra should not be reversed by the Quds Force.
Whether it’s true, or just a little misinformation, it’s hard to tell. The Pentagon likes to drop little tidbits like this to confuse our adversaries as to our true intents. Or, it could be a less than subtle attempt to get the Iranians to play ball and cut out the support to the Iraq insurgency.
Either way, the liberal nutroots are having an effin’ field day with it. Here’s some of the choicer comments on this story, from the bastion of liberal nuttiness - Democratic Underground. It’s pretty amusing hearing anti-war liberals talk strategic military tactics.

The United States has a long and well established pattern of imperialist violence - both covert and overt - against other countries, under both Republican and Democratic administrations. The invasion of Iraq and the potential attacks against Iran are merely a continuation of that pattern.
