Ah nuts! Once more I must dance on the delicate tightrope of really, REALLY wanting to talk about a candidate running for higher office, and running smack-dab into the Department of Defense regulations that say that I, as an Active-Duty soldier, have to keep my mouth shut.

Given that scenario, I’ll do my best to remain neutral. Here goes!

It was recently reported at U.S. News and World Report, that presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama, availed himself of the services of one each Blackwater security corporation, while on his recent world tour.

Whispers confirms that Blackwater did handle the Democratic presidential candidate’s security in Afghanistan and helped out in Iraq. What’s more, Obama was overheard saying: “Blackwater is getting a bad rap.”

This especially interesting, in light of the fact that Obama has taken Blackwater to task in the past, when speaking to Democratic primary voters. Back in October, 2007, the Chicago Tribune reported that Obama was saying this about Blackwater:

IOWA CITY –Sen. Barack Obama charged today that a private security firm operating in Iraq has acted “with reckless disregard to Iraqi life,” as he called his proposals to better monitor such contractors the toughest reforms offered by any candidate in the presidential race.

Although Obama has previously mentioned Blackwater USA, the Illinois Democrat drew greater attention to the firm’s actions in an extended discussion on the University of Iowa’s campus.

Most contractors act as if the law doesn’t apply to them,” he said. “Under my plan, if contractors break the law, they will be prosecuted.”

In announcing his “Security Contractor Accountability Plan,” Obama said he would like to see greater transparency on contractor hiring and costs.

“I’ve proposed tougher government reforms than any other candidate in this race – reforms that would eliminate the kind of no-bid contracts that this administration has given to Blackwater,” he said.

Double Tap, don’t say it man! Don’t say it!

OK, I can’t say what this looks like to me. However, I’m sure some gentle reader in my meager audience can do the work for me…
