You’ll note they get positive visual identification, plus get permission from higher, before they start shooting. So much for the thought that U.S. forces just randomly shoot at Iraqis.
I have to admit, I find myself cheering these Apache gunners on when they take those bastards down. Does that make me a blood-thirsty redneck conservative? Maybe.
Or, [...]
I have to admit, I do enjoy watching jihadis get blown to hell.
Courtesy of the U.S. Army, the fireworks start around the 2:30 minute mark, or about a minute left in the video. The full story is below the jump.
BAGHDAD – An al-Qaeda in Iraq effort to reestablish a position in the southern Baghdad province [...]

I was able to visit the Ah Shaw(sp) palace in Baghdad - one of Saddam's old haunts and now the home of MNC-I. These columns were huge.
Everyone going overseas, no matter your job, has to learn how to do room clearing. Here we are training a "four-man stack". The squad leader is taking up the rear.
Here's what it looked like as we boarded the plane to fly to Iraq. I remember being both excited and nervous at the same time.
Me practicing shooting an AK47. As you can tell, it was a hot day. It was fun shooting the AK on full auto, but I still prefer the M4.
I would love to tell you what this mural says, but I never got it translated. I'm pretty sure it dates back to when the Iraqi Army and Air Force were still under Saddam. It was located in a building on our FOB.
This mosque, I was told, was Saddam's personal mosque near the Al Faw palace. Now, it's located on Victory Base Complex.
This is the Perfume Palace on Victory Base Complex in Baghdad. The story I heard was that this was once where Saddam and his boys kept their extra-curricular female companions. Now, it houses contractors.
This is a typical truck driven by private security. It's armored to some extent, and features a "gun bucket" in the back for a rear gunner's position.
This is a rocket that landed on our base, detonated underground, and did no damage. I believe this is actually a rocket designed to be fired from an aircraft, but Hajji will use anything they can get to shoot.
If you fly much in Iraq, then you've likely been on one of these - a C-17. They are much better to fly in than C-130s.
Believe it or not, this is what they served for dinner one night. I think it was a case of a Turk not translating to English correctly.
I took this photo while flying over Baghdad. It is the Grand Mosque which Saddam was building when the invasion occurred. When finished, it was supposed to be the largest mosque in the world. I doubt it will ever be completed.
The FOB I was on was a former Iraqi Air Force base. As a result, we had a couple of these old Mig-21s laying around. The former commander of the base told me the more modern planes were buried - and then dug up for scrap by the locals.
The extension on the front of this HMMWV is used to set off IEDs prior to the HMMWV actually passing by. These have been used in Iraq for some time, so I don't think I'm giving away any secrets here.
